分手後還能做朋友嗎？答案可以是肯定及否定的，因為這件事本身並無對錯之分，每個人對分手後應在什麼時候才再做回朋友的時間不一，一切全賴適應期的長短。唯一可以肯定的，是假若分手的原因是因為有第三者，那分手後男女能成為朋友的可能幾近於零，皆因分手時的局面太醜惡太痛苦，混雜了謊言和不信任。
能在分手後繼續做朋友的男女，大體而言可分三種。第一種類型是男女分手時感情早已淡過白開水，雙方都只是等待對方先開口。既然愛情火花早已燒盡，分手時當然已不懷怨恨，甚至可以鬆一口氣，與對方齊齊檢討關係中的得失。這種關係的男女必須保持心境平和及清醒，才能有這種略帶看破紅塵意味的思維。第二種類型的男女相比之下便沒那麼幸運，因為很多時往往都是由分手後的其中一方強行維繫所謂的朋友關係。最不幸的，是提出做回朋友的往往以女生居多。無論男人怎樣冷淡，這類型的姊妹總是拖延和逃避現實，希望能在退而求其次的友誼中破釜沉舟，但結果釜還未破，船已一早開走，苦苦妄想最後只剩徒然及枉然。
